KEEPING HAIR HEALTHY

• Avoid the temptation to twist and pull hair into a ponytail. If you want to get hair off your neck and face, try a loose twist held in place with pins rather than an elastic.

• Don’t overhandle hair, particularly when it’s wet and most fragile. Never brush wet hair; use your fingers or a wide-tooth comb, starting at hair ends and moving toward the scalp to untangle hair or work in conditioner.

• Revamp your blow-drying technique: Towel or-air-dry hair to remove most of the moisture before blow drying. Use your fingers for the first few minutes to style hair; switch to a brush at the end.

• Choose a dryer with separate air power and temperature controls; you can use a high power but make sure to use a low heat setting.

• Hold the dryer at least six inches from your head for overall drying; for spot styling, hold the dryer at least one inch from the brush.

• Choose the comb you use carefully by rubbing the comb’s teeth against the palm of your hand to test for smoothness; a comb with rounded tips won’t break your hair or damage your scalp.

TIPS FOR COLOURED HAIR

• Condition every time you shampoo.

• Before going swimming, wet hair first with fresh water and apply a conditioner before going into the pool or ocean. Rinse hair as soon as possible after swimming.

• Cover up hair in sun to prevent the color from oxidizing and changing colour.

• Check out one-time-only hair colour in a variety of colours, from pink to blue. Paint them on for a party!
