Fall/Winter
Caring for hair during the winter months is a tough task. When the
mercury dips below the freezing point and frosty, dry winds swirl
around, it robs your hair of essential moisture. Read on for tips of
how to beat the trickiest winter problems:
Problem: Dry, fuzzy ends
Solution: Schedule trims religiously - every four to six week - to
prevent fried ends from getting worse. Stock up on a moisturizing
conditioner and try an ultra-moisturizing hair mask every week. Once
product has penetrated and moisturized the hair, the moisture will need
to be locked in. A cold, cool rinse helps close the cuticle and seal in
the moisture.
Problem: Static and flyaways
Solution: Spritz on a leave-in conditioner before you style; this
helps to weigh your hair down. If your hair is normal to thick, try a
styling cream or texture paste to tame frizz. For fine hair, try a
styling mousse. Need a quick fix during the day? Run damp hands through
hair to rehydrate and help tame frizz.
Problem: Hat Head
Solution: That tight, knit hat looks very cool on you, but hats also
do a disservice to your hair by overworking your sebaceous glands,
resulting in limp, greasy locks. Make sure your hat still leaves room
for your hair to "breathe". If you have "hat head", wet your hands and
rough up roots, then run wet hands through your hair to tame flyaways.
Or use a vent brush to lift strands and take out tangles without adding
static.
Good luck and happy fall and winter!
